Commission structure
Your total product sales in a calendar month decide your commission tier for that month. The tier rate then applies to your entire monthly sales value.
- Below βΉ1,000: 5 percent
- βΉ1,000 to βΉ1,999: 10 percent
- βΉ2,000 and above: 15 percent
Product sales value means the price of the products sold through your unique link or code, excluding shipping charges and GST.
- You must register and be approved through the Swachh Living™ Ambassador Portal before you can generate referral links or codes.
- Once approved, you may promote any product or products from the Swachh Living™ catalogue. There is no minimum or maximum purchase or sales value required to take part.
- Commission is calculated on the product sales value generated through your unique referral link or code, at the tier rate for your total monthly product sales as set out above.
- Commission tiers are assessed on cumulative product sales value within each calendar month. Each new month starts fresh.
- Attribution follows a last click rule. A sale is credited to the most recent ambassador link or code used by the customer, valid for 30 days from that click or code entry. Ambassador codes cannot be combined with each other or stacked with other promotional discounts unless stated otherwise.
- Commission is confirmed only after the order return and cancellation window has closed. If an order is cancelled, returned, or refunded, the related commission is reversed and will not be paid.
- Swachh Ambassadors may not earn commission on their own purchases or on orders they place for themselves.
- Payouts are processed monthly, subject to a minimum payout threshold of βΉ500. Amounts below the threshold roll over to the next month.
- Payouts are made in Indian Rupees to the UPI or bank account you provide in your dashboard after approval. Payouts are subject to applicable taxes. Tax will be deducted at source where required under Indian law, and you must provide a valid PAN once your cumulative commission in a financial year approaches the applicable threshold.
- You must represent the products and the brand honestly. Misleading claims, spam, incentivised or fake orders, or any fraudulent activity will result in disqualification and forfeiture of unpaid commission.
- Swachh Living™ may modify commission rates or program terms with prior notice. Changes apply from the date stated in the notice and do not affect commission already confirmed.
- Either party may end participation at any time. Commission confirmed before termination will be honoured, subject to these terms.
- These terms are governed by the laws of India, with jurisdiction in the courts of New Delhi. For any query or grievance, contact support@swachhliving.com.

The Ultimate Guide to Choosing Eco-Friendly Cleaning Products
What "eco-friendly" really means, the certifications worth trusting, the ingredients to avoid, and how to build a cleaning routine that is genuinely better for your home and the planet.
The Ultimate Guide to Choosing Eco-Friendly Cleaning Products
Published August 17, 2026 Β· 7 min read Β· By Swachh Living™
"Eco-friendly" is one of the loosest terms in retail. Here is how to cut through the marketing and build a cleaning routine that is genuinely better for your home and the planet.

There is a moment that happens to almost everyone at some point. You are standing in the cleaning aisle, holding a bottle of all-purpose spray, and you flip it over to read the ingredients. Then you realise you cannot pronounce half of them, there is a warning label about ventilation, and somewhere in the back of your mind you start wondering what exactly you have been spraying on your kitchen counters for the last five years.
That moment is usually what pushes people toward eco-friendly cleaning products. But here is the thing nobody tells you upfront: "eco-friendly" is one of the loosest terms in retail. It gets slapped on packaging with almost no regulation behind it, which means the aisle that is supposed to make your decision easier can actually make it more confusing. So this guide is meant to cut through that a bit. What actually makes a cleaning product eco-friendly, what to look for, what to ignore, and how to build a cleaning routine that is genuinely better for your home and the planet, not just better marketed.
Why This Even Matters
Conventional cleaning products are not just an environmental issue, they are a health one too. Many contain volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which off-gas into your indoor air and have been linked to respiratory irritation over time. Others use phosphates that, once washed down the drain, contribute to algal blooms in rivers and lakes, which then starve aquatic ecosystems of oxygen. Add in synthetic fragrances, harsh surfactants, and packaging that is rarely recyclable, and you start to see why the "just rinse it down the drain" mentality does not quite hold up anymore.
None of this means you need to throw out every bottle under your sink tomorrow. It just means it is worth being a little more deliberate about what you buy next.

What "Eco-Friendly" Actually Means (And What It Does Not)
Let us get one thing out of the way. A green leaf on the label and the word "natural" printed in a nice serif font mean absolutely nothing on their own. There is no legal definition stopping a company from calling a product "eco-friendly" even if it is chemically identical to the conventional version sitting next to it.
What actually matters is a combination of a few things:
- Ingredient transparency. A genuinely eco-conscious brand will list every ingredient, not just a vague "plant-derived surfactants" line. If a company will not tell you what is in the bottle, that is a red flag in itself.
- Biodegradability. Look for ingredients that break down naturally without leaving behind persistent residues. Plant-based surfactants tend to biodegrade far faster than petroleum-based ones.
- No phosphates, chlorine bleach, or ammonia. These are some of the more aggressive offenders when it comes to waterway pollution and indoor air quality.
- Packaging. Eco-friendly is not just about what is inside the bottle, it is also about what the bottle is made of. Recycled plastic, refillable containers, or concentrate formulas that reduce the amount of plastic shipped per wash are all meaningful signals.
- Cruelty-free and vegan certifications, if that matters to you personally, are a separate but often-paired consideration.
Certifications Worth Trusting (And a Few That Are Not)
This is where things get genuinely useful, because third-party certifications exist specifically to cut through marketing fluff. But only some of them are rigorous.
Look for:
- EPA Safer Choice. Products carrying this label have been reviewed ingredient-by-ingredient by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for both human and environmental safety.
- EWG Verified. The Environmental Working Group has one of the more consumer-friendly databases for checking how a product's ingredients stack up.
- USDA BioPreferred. Indicates a product is made from a verified percentage of renewable, bio-based ingredients.
- Leaping Bunny or Cruelty-Free International. If animal testing is a concern for you, these are the certifications with actual audit processes behind them, unlike a generic "we do not test on animals" claim printed on the box.
Be sceptical of:
- Vague claims like "eco", "green", "natural", or "non-toxic" printed with no certifying body behind them.
- "Made with natural ingredients". Natural does not automatically mean safe (arsenic is natural too).
- Front-of-label leaf icons or earth-tone packaging with nothing to back it up on the ingredient list.

Ingredients Worth Knowing on Sight
You do not need to memorise the periodic table to shop smarter. A few ingredient categories are worth flagging on sight.
Ingredients to avoid:
- Phthalates (often hidden under "fragrance")
- Ammonia and chlorine bleach
- Triclosan (a persistent antibacterial agent linked to hormone disruption)
- 2-Butoxyethanol (a common solvent that is an eye and respiratory irritant)
- Optical brighteners, mostly found in laundry products, which do not actually clean anything. They just make fabric look brighter under light.
Ingredients that are generally a good sign:
- Plant-based surfactants like decyl glucoside or sodium coco-sulfate
- Citric acid and vinegar-based formulas for grease-cutting and descaling
- Essential oils used for scent instead of synthetic fragrance
- Enzyme-based cleaners for organic stains (these work by breaking down the stain molecules rather than just masking them)
A simple trick: if the ingredient list reads like a chemistry exam question, or if "fragrance" is the only scent-related word listed with nothing else specified, that is usually where synthetic and less transparent formulations hide.
Do Not Overlook the Packaging Question
It is easy to get so focused on what is inside the bottle that you forget the bottle itself is part of the environmental footprint. A "natural" cleaner sold in a single-use plastic bottle that ends up in a landfill is not as green as it looks on paper.
A few things worth prioritising here:
- Concentrates and refill pouches. Many brands now sell a small refill pouch that you dilute into a reusable spray bottle. This alone can cut plastic use by 80% or more compared to buying a new bottle every time.
- Recycled and recyclable materials. Look for post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic, glass, or aluminium packaging.
- Cardboard or compostable packaging for powder-based products like laundry detergent sheets or dishwasher tablets.
- Local or regional brands, which often have a smaller shipping footprint than something sourced from across the country or overseas.

Building a Simple, Sustainable Cleaning Routine
Once you have got a handle on what to look for, the actual shift does not have to be dramatic. A few practical steps:
- Do not toss what you already own. Use up your existing conventional products first. Throwing away half-full bottles just adds more waste, which defeats the purpose.
- Start with the products you use most. All-purpose spray and dish soap are usually the highest-use items in most homes, so switching those first has the biggest impact.
- Consider DIY basics. A mix of white vinegar, baking soda, and castile soap can handle a surprising number of household cleaning jobs, and it is about as low-impact as it gets.
- Buy concentrates over pre-diluted sprays. You are paying largely for water when you buy a ready-to-use spray bottle. Concentrates save money and packaging.
- Store cleaning products properly. Keep them away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures to preserve their effectiveness, especially plant-based formulas, which can degrade faster than synthetic ones.
The Bottom Line
Choosing eco-friendly cleaning products is not about achieving some perfect, zero-impact household overnight. That is not realistic, and chasing it usually just leads to burnout. It is about making better-informed swaps where you can, learning to see past marketing language that is designed to sound green without meaning much, and gradually building habits that reduce both the toxic load in your home and the waste stream leaving it.
Start with one or two products. See how they perform. Build from there. The goal is not perfection, it is a cleaning routine you can actually stick with, that also happens to be a little kinder to your lungs, your water systems, and the planet you are sharing them with.
